The way people use technology to better their lives is changing. While only a decade ago it was common for us to have just a desktop computer and maybe a laptop, we now use multiple devices to work more efficiently, enjoy more entertainment, and connect with each other on a day-to-day basis. Today, it’s not uncommon for a user to have a desktop computer, a smart phone, a laptop, and even a tablet device.
So even though there are multiple devices, the user remains a single entity, and needs to access the same content on all these devices. Porting our documents, photos, and other media to another device when we want to use them on that device is cumbersome and makes it more difficult to keep track of versions.
To address this need, Apple announced on June 6 during the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference. iCloud is a user-friendly cloud service provided by Apple that effortlessly stores a user’s content on a cloud and automatically pushes this content to all of their registered devices. Now users can access their music, photos, applications, documents, iBooks, contacts, email from anywhere with any desktop or Apple mobile device, such as the iPad, , or iPod Touch.

The iCloud makes easy by doing all the work for the user. Content is wirelessly pulled to the cloud and pushed to the registered devices automatically, rather than manually uploaded or downloaded. Since it only pushes changes to content instead of re-pushing the entire file, it is quick and efficient. And with content stored on the iCloud, data is automatically backed up in case it is deleted or lost.

iCloud currently works with Photo Stream, iTunes, Documents, Apps, iBooks, Contacts, Calendars, and Mail, but Apple has sent SDKs to developers to add more applications to the iCloud service, such as reminders, stock lists, and more. The is available for PC and Mac but only Apple’s mobile devices can be registered for the service.
